It was around this time that I had the dream.
A group of familiar faces standing under a pavilion.
Coney Island?
Just as I remembered you, but when you hugged me I thought,
“Ah, he’s not so skinny anymore.”
I’ve remembered that hug for years.
I was never a good girlfriend and at times I wasn’t even a good friend. Don’t know how many times I’ve apologized. I’m a late-bloomer. Maybe a forever-bloomer.
But that’s all in the rear mirror view… On this special day, let’s raise a white russian and remember the old promise. Here’s to Frank and Louie and Ella and Billie and Woody and Annie and Spuddy and bad English accents and good southern ones and 100 ideas for sitcoms and half-written screenplays and car games for 1,000 mile drives and dancing badly but with good intentions.
Happy Birthday, my wonderful friend, you will always be in my heart.
