Missed Connection in Athens, GA
Habibti
This is my last stand.
I want you to know this:
I fell in love with you.
I fell down the Mariana Trench with you.
does your heart still skip a beat when you hear my name;
just like mine does when I hear yours?
In my dreams I can still touch you, smell you, and hold you.
I can still make your knees buckles with my kisses.
and you still can look at me.
I truly wish I could fix everything with just a snap of my finger…
reverse the clock. Do things differently.
But I can’t
and time is the only thing that could ever mend this mess.
I hope I can hear you say someday…
when you are sitting alone in a bar…
with a drink in one hand, a book in the other…
“You know I still love you, right?”
to which I will reply,
“Yes, dear”
and I will take the seat next to you
and get lost in your burnt siennas all over again
Note from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle Finder: The Athens MC has been quiet lately but this is a poem I discovered earlier in the winter. With it being the tortuous week of Valentine’s it seemed like a good time to publish it. I’m sure our Athenian poet isn’t the only one with thoughts such as this right now…
