Missed Connections in New Orleans, LA
Lovers and Friends
It feels so good when you hug me, like I never want you to let me go…
But, now that we’ve crossed the line
from just being friends to being lovers and friends,
you changed the rules…
I can hear it in your voice,
feel it in your words
that you’re upset
that I’m not around when you want me to be.
I should have been stronger, not let things go this far
but at the time you were what I needed.
All I need you to do is hold me now, but you want so much more.
I think I should just leave well enough alone.

Her Two Cents on Lovers and Friends
This NOLA poet is in a tough spot – the line has been crossed from friends to lovers and the end result hasn’t been favorable. The past cannot be changed and actions cannot be undone – all that one can hope for is that the bond of friendship is strong enough to move beyond this brief “transgression” – it’s not an easy thing and not all people can manage that.
Gentle Readers: The topic of friends turning into lovers has been the subject of endless books and films. Is it possible to be long-time friends first and then have a successful, passionate relationship? Have you ever found yourself in this situation?
