Missed Connections In Portland, OR
Etch-a-Sketch
heart at wheel
streets stop
time for a test
i love tests
because
i am an idiot
you know it
faces on the street
not yours of course
that’s obvious
so be it
there’s a wait list
love
you do
know everything that is
practically
i think you’re
a chalk whisperer
counting crickets
what’s your story
etch-a-sketch
dance it
write it
not like you read this
love
said the idiot
Her Two Cents on Etch-a-Sketch
As a child I was a miserable failure at the etch-a-sketch. Always wanted to twist and turn the knobs into beautiful images but never made anything more than incoherent squiggles. Far from incoherent, out Portland poet gives us this staccato piece that has some delicious bits (“i love tests because i am an idiot” and “i think you’re a chalk whisperer” line are my favorites). What is the story…
Gentle Readers: When you read the line, “i think you’re a chalk whisperer” what image comes to mind? When I read this I think of that perfect combination of artistic printing and consistent pressure that produces beautiful looking signs and chalkboard menus. What about you?
