NOTE FROM THE MISSED CONNECTIONS CHIEF BOTTLE FINDER:
When I read this message it made me wonder if the writer was referencing their loss of desire for things musical or if they were lamenting the passing of someone who filled their life with song…
Missed Connections in Lexington, KY
No Longer
No longer
does the voice sing nor the fingers play.
Lost in the solitude,
vision of the future blur.
Loneliness and yearning the only company to keep.
Missing what once was.
Wondering what shall be.
Her Two Cents on No Longer
Our lovelorn Lexington poet appears to have lost the music in their life and is engaged in solitary travels through the desert of loneliness. The piece does end with a glimmer of hope, as wondering about the future shows that water and life won’t be too far afield.
Gentle Readers: Music provides the soundtrack to many life events – both significant and mundane. Do you have a song that always reminds you of a particular person or time in your life? How does it make you feel when you hear it?
Becky says
There are so many songs that remind me of people and times in my life! For example, the song “Chicago” by Sufjan Stevens (listen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azGIf74ICmw ) reminds me of when I studied abroad in China. We were staying in a Yi Minority village in Yunnan Province, and the people there were showing us traditional dances and teaching us–or at least trying to teach us–how to do them. Afterwards, to return the favor, my friend Ben pulled me up on stage and we sang “Chicago” together. It was really beautiful.

Becky, this is a great song and I’ll use it as a soundtrack as soon as I find a suitable MC from Chicago to publish (which is easier said than done, unfortunately). I think you should post your Pretending to Know You stories to the Chicago MC – that would make it more more exciting! 😉
