Note from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle Finder:
Lovelorn Poets is all about the proverbial “message in a bottle” so here’s hoping that our Portland poet finds his missing Alice in Wonderland. I was hesitant to use the well-known Police tune with the same title as a soundtrack, but seeing this live recording from 1978 where Sting not only has brown hair (??!!) BUT has his shirt fully buttoned (nary a chest hair to be seen) sealed the deal for me. Hope you enjoy!

Beautiful Blonde Girl. This Was Years Ago.
I was 17. You couldn’t have been far from that. I would get on the northbound bus at 82nd & Duke Street every morning at 7:30, and you’d always be sitting there on the bus’s right hand side, the last seat before the back door; your light golden blond hair and unbelievably deep blue eyes shining back at me. Sometimes you would be wearing a white and blue top, and I swear you looked like Alice in Wonderland. I know that sounds cheesy, but it’s true. You looked slightly Slavic, or perhaps Nordic. Your skin was so fair, and your eyes so innocent; they always caught mine for a second or two, then I think we would both look away out of embarrassment. I could tell there was a lot going on in that beautiful mind. You were like something out of a dream.
I know this is a ridiculous long shot, but I just wanted to tell you that, to this day, I have never forgotten how gorgeous you are. Often I think back to those cold, dark, drizzly mornings, in the years when I was lost and trying to find myself; you made those mornings brighter, and I thank you. Despite the fact that I have no idea who you are, those moments during which my eyes were locked with yours were beyond magical.
I’ll just never forget the way our eyes met…and I know it won’t happen, but I would love to know you.
I hope you get my message in a bottle.
