Oh, Brother!
Missed Connections in Seattle, WA
Her eyes speak lies
Every time she looks at me.
And her lips whisper perverse
Statements of innocence.
But I have since discovered
That her flesh yearns for
My back to turn
To make a fool of me
With another.
(O, Brother, I am down.)
“I really like you and only you”
She says as she pleads her case,
But her face seems troubled at the thought
Of being caught in this infidelity
That I feared would one day come.
She pledges to me her adoration
And promises to cut their communication
But with this object of her fixation,
She waits for the day of separation.
And I’m amazed, dear Brother,
How much this revelation stings,
For aren’t these things to be expected
When we make dealings with the world?
NOTE FROM THE MISSED CONNECTIONS CHIEF BOTTLE FINDER:
Our lovelorn Seattle poet closes this piece with the words, “…For aren’t these things to be expected When we make dealings with the world?” Considering the topic of the message, I would say no, those things shouldn’t be expected (that’s like wishing for it it happen) but sometimes they do – and we just need to figure out how to get through them.
