NOTE FROM THE MISSED CONNECTIONS CHIEF BOTTLE FINDER:
This short piece from the Chicago MC caught my eye with the opening words, “i write a new message filled to the brim with words, that i would never bring myself to send you.” Once, a very very long time ago (before the internet when dinosaurs roamed the earth), I wrote a poem that began, “a letter written never to be sent tied with a bit of lace Ellen gave me for Christmas…” I’m not sure how the rest of the piece went but it gives me a strange sensation to see another person from another time writing something similar. I guess the human condition never really changes!
In A Descending Order
Missed Connections in Chicago, IL
i write a new message filled to the brim with words,
that i would never bring myself to say to you.
words that i could never say a’loud.
its not like you would ever know.
just so i could pour my heart out.
erase each trace of true identity.
break any links of recognition.
i couldn’t ever really tell you.
oh, you would never know.
oh, how i miss you so.
