Missed Connections in Fargo, ND: Vegan Pepperoni
Work:
Free-lance literary translator
Duration: I’ve loved to draw since I was a child. As an adult I used to paint just occasionally, but two years ago I joined Flickr and my activity became much more regular.
Education:I have a degree in Philosophy and another one in Translation and Interpretation. I have no artistic training, at least for the moment.
Influences: I’m inspired by naïf art, traditional art, comics, illustration, children drawings… More than by technical mastery, I’m moved by spontaneity and expressivity, the power of color, the graphic qualities of a piece, the capacity to say a lot with the simplest means.
In Flickr I’ve discovered artists that I admire a lot (as Margarita Pérez García or Patrícia Brasil, to name just two who have been particularly influential), and I’ve also found inspiring and supportive groups as Julia Kay’s Portrait Party.
Preferred Work Environment:I like to draw at home, sitting at the same desk where I do my translations, or more comfortably on the living room coach. On buses or public places I make quick sketches on my phone. I like to use acrylics, watercolor or pen on paper, and drawing software on a graphics tablet or more recently an iPad.
Philosophy: I’m not sure to have a philosophy besides “live and let live”. I draw or paint in a very intuitive way, not intellectual at all. The first subject of interest for me is people, and the second one, the small objects of everyday life. I adore portraits and I think that human eyes contain all the world.

Thank you, Zoraida, for licensing your work through Creative Commons and sharing your work with the Lovelorn Poets! As someone without formal art training, I find your work in both traditional and technology-driven formats inspiring. Key lessons learned? (Applicable to any field, I suppose.) Create regularly, find others to admire and share with, and show your work!
