It Has Been A Month
Missed Connections in San Diego
i dreamt of you last night so real and clear and true
that i willed myself back to sleep
so that i could inhabit that lovely blissful
landscape
for just a few minutes more
do you know the most warming and heartening part
of the dream
was not when we made love
(no complaints there, though)
but when you smiled and laughed at my jokes?
when we laughed in convulsion together?
i had forgotten how good it felt
to know that you see me
and to see and hold who you are
(in case you are wondering
i got my invite
and i wont be there
you can attend without that concern
i could not put either of us through that
on that day of all days)
NOTE FROM THE MISSED CONNECTIONS CHIEF BOTTLE FINDER:
This message prompted me to think about dreams involving old loves – they’re generally a bit disconcerting, aren’t they? Even when they involve pleasant recollections, like our Poet’s here, it’s still enough to leave you feeling off-balance. Wedding invitations can do that to the psyche, I guess.
