Life On Mars
Missed Connections in Brooklyn
The swans landed softy on the lake in prospect park
because water is so still at times
and the elephants remembered the days
when ivory was just ivory
sitting quietly in coffee shops and bodegas
waiting for their paycheck
they’d cover their bodies in dust
and try to remember
if there was life on
mars
NOTE FROM THE MISSED CONNECTIONS CHIEF BOTTLE FINDER:
This appears to be a variation of another Life on Mars poem that appeared here some months ago. The addition of the lake and elephants paints a different image, but the tone is still a wistful one. Will there ever be return to days when “ivory was just ivory”?
