I Write These Words For You.
Missed Connections in Seattle-Tacoma
something meaningful,
something expressive,
something that says i want you–if for no other reason than that i do…
i write the words and quickly backspace as if you are behind me,
watching me fumble through these words,
trying to find the right words,
knowing they are not.
even these words, that are clearly nothing,
i write for you in the hope that when your eyes move over them,
they will magically become something else altogether,
something beautiful–like you.
maybe like something you might find while walking on a beach or in the woods, a stone, or a coin of some strange origin.
and you keep it for some reason even though it’s common but still
special, though even you can’t say for sure why.
that’s what i mean to say.
i write these words hoping that you will find some meaning in them,
and maybe something of me.
Her Two Cents from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle-Finder:
“I write the words and quickly backspace as if you are behind me…” I like that line! Haven’t we all felt that way at one time or another? Struggling to find the right words to convey our thoughts and feelings, writing and re-writing and re-writing again, analyzing the words, the sounds, the combinations, trying to create the right tone. Wondering if the message truly represents our individuality and fine tuning the details. Does the effort really matter? Is an artfully constructed message more appealing than words as a blunt tool? I think you might be able to guess my opinion to that question…
