Through the end of the year I’ll be digging into the Lovelorn Poets missed connections archive and publishing some of the gems you may not have caught the first time around – enjoy!
Waiting for M Train to Female Accordionist
Missed Connections in Manhattan
originally published on July 27
It was around 7:30pm. Thursday 11-11-10 at the 14th Street & 6 Avenue station.
You were waiting for the M train.
I took my headphones off and leaned on the wall.
To my left a girl played the accordion.
The sound echoed through the station.
It was a beautiful sound you heard nothing else.
Suddenly she finished playing and left a dead silence.
A man sitting to my right began singing where the sound left off.
With a deep, loud, and soothing voice.
It was reminiscent of a scene taken from a foreign movie
and his voice sounded as if he were the accordionist’s duet counterpart.
The element of surprise that nobody expected!
All I know is that it cracked you up
The timing was too perfect
you saw me smiling trying not to laugh.
You were very pretty
and made me want to talk to you
but you got on the M train before I could approach you.
NOTE FROM THE MISSED CONNECTIONS CHIEF BOTTLE FINDER:
One of my favorite things about publishing this blog is that I get to pick all sorts of great art and music to accompany the missed connections. This video from The Low Anthem is one of my favorites and it has all the ideal elements – a train station, an accordion, commuters and tourists moving hither thither, and a sad, sweet love song. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
