Through the end of the year I’ll be digging into the Lovelorn Poets missed connections archive and publishing some of the gems you may not have caught the first time around – enjoy!
I Never Meant To Lose You, Red
Missed Connections in Manhattan
originally published on October 13
You were the cutest thing I ever picked up in a Tennessee truck stop,
and having you around almost every day for the last six months was a cozy affair indeed.
You always turned heads and inspired compliments,
and you were, without fail,
bright, warm, and humble.
I lost you somewhere in the crowd at Webster Hall at the end of the Justin Townes Earle show – and I looked for you, I did.
If I had known how quickly it would all be over, lost,
I would have told you how much I cared when I still had the chance.
You were the best hat I ever had,
and you will be missed.
xoxo
NOTE FROM THE MISSED CONNECTIONS CHIEF BOTTLE FINDER:
I love this ode to the lost chapeau! I originally thought “Red” referred to a dog (although I suppose there are red-headed humans to be picked-up at Tennessee truck stops as well 😉 but the second to last line illuminated everything and it really made me smile. Poet, I think you’ve got the makings of a great country love song here!
