Dead Cat in the Road
Missed Connections in Portland, OR
A speeding car raced past my place last night,
in such a rush that I feared I’d find a flattened cat in the middle of the road come sunrise.
Made coffee first thing and remembered the scene as I peered thru the blinds.
No sign of road kill.
Later I noticed a fig in the driveway and thought of you.
Strange place for fruit to land in this part of town.
It looked good so brushed it off and ate it.
Ya, I love you too.
My inquiring mind wants to know; if you threw the fig, what kind was it?

Her Two Cents from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle-Finder:
Over the holiday, Brooklyn poet Lee Taylor of With All Our Forgets and Plans sent me a message about the death of Laura Kennedy, bassist of the seminal new wave band Bush Tetras and asked if I could feature one of their songs. I hadn’t given much thought to the BTs in many years but “Things that Go Boom in the Night” paired oh-so-nicely with this oddly poetic missed connection from Portland. Take a listen, enjoy, and send a good thought to the punk-rock heaven house-band.
