To the Guy On the Bike
Missed Connections in Asheville
I was visiting my friend in Asheville.
I was downtown one morning, standing on a street corner and trying to orient myself on a map.
You were waiting for a light to change.
You were on your bike.
You said hi, then I said hi, then, out of nowhere you said I was incredibly beautiful.
And I was so taken off guard that I just said thank you in this terribly “You’re sweet I get that all the time” sort of way.
Then the light changed and you rode away.
I just wanted to say, you made my day.
And I thought you were pretty dashing yourself – peddling off into the sunset in your cute khaki shorts.

Her Two Cents from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle-Finder:
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a rewind button for life? Whether for averting large-scale emotional disasters or simply altering a response given to a random stranger, we all occasionally wish for a do-over. While it remains uncertain if the khaki-shorted cyclist will ever read this message, sometimes just thinking the thoughts and releasing them to the world is enough to quell our regrets and think about what we’d do differently next time.
