Missed Connections in Brooklyn
We got on the Q train from Union Square–
You were holding a smoothie, wearing a blazer and knit hat, signing to your friend.
I have a short blonde pixie cut, and was wearing rain boots and a long black coat.
I have no idea why I’m writing this, other than the fact that I was struck by you and felt an urgent need to say hello (or signal hello)
— and I didn’t.
So, alas…
I write my first missed connection, and I say, “hello…”

Throughout the year and a half that I’ve curated missed connections for this blog, there are a few things I’ve learned about how to increase your chances of having a missed connection. Ride the subway, get a dog and walk it in a dog park, go grocery shopping, and hang out at coffee shops. Seriously, if you did those four things each and every day, someone will notice you. I recently stumbled upon an article from Megan Baldwin at the Huffington Post who’s undertaking her own version of missed connections research.
