The man in the deli wore plastic surgical gloves as he made my ham and cheese on a roll.
I latter learned that this had nothing to do with precision,
but was the protocol for not spreading germs.
I would have thanked him for taking such care if it were not for the fact that this was required by law.
Missing the times when everything wasn’t surgically sealed for our protection.

There was a time, not all that long ago, when they didn’t wear plastic gloves to prepare food. On one hand, it’s a good idea for preventing the spread of illness, but on the other, I wonder how many plastic gloves end up in the landfill? We spend all our time worrying about plastic bag use – what about all those plastic gloves?Just a little something to think about…
