Speckled Green Eyes
Missed Connections in Little Rock
a beautiful girl once sat beside down beside me.
she told me lifetimes in a glance.
she pulled something out of her pocket, carefully, casually, secretly/ openly.
her face reminded me of the time i had captured numerous fireflies in a jar with a hole-punched lid, and the amazement and pride i felt upon revealing them.
they glowed so bright.
just like her eyes as she gingerly pulled away the corners of white cloth to reveal a tarnished, worn heart that was decorated by the most delicate, beautiful details.
a straining, hunting lovely melody drifted from within, each note pure and as perfect as the sunshine, accompanied by a cooling breeze, stained with sweet honeysuckle.
she held it gently like the tears that gathered in her eyes, threatening to crash down.
she casually handed it to me.
she looked over at me just as the tears began their promise trail .
she grinned, lop-sided and with speckled green eyes that both plead and assure, said, ” you keep it. it feels safe there.”
without waiting for a reply, she stood and walked away.
Her Two Cents from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle-Finder:
Little Rock, AR is our featured location today and I was thoroughly delighted to find this fairytale-esque message. It made me wonder why the beautiful girl walked away after giving the heart to another and what her reasons for doing so were. Cornelia Kopp’s image captures the enchanted fantasy of the story but is perhaps reflective of happier times (a previous chapter, I presume?)
