You, Shouting Abuse From Car. Me, Without Recourse
Missed Connections in NYC
Dear Driver Who Shouted Abuse At Me Out His Window,
Please. Calm down.
I get it, you don’t like having to share the road, I’m already well aware.
Verbally harassing a defenseless woman won’t get you any closer to having the street all to yourself.
All it does is make the world a little more horrible.
On second thought, maybe it also makes you feel strong and in control, to yell at a woman while driving away, but you’d be a lot stronger if you just said it to your passenger or kept it to yourself and left me alone.
I’m just a normal New Yorker, a devoted wife.
I’m just trying to get where I need to be as quickly and safely as possible.
Please, seriously, just let me get there without the abuse.

Her Two Cents from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle-Finder:
This is one of those messages we’ve all experienced. It’s so easy to become angry when we’re behind the wheel of a car – pedestrians, other drivers, delivery trucks, taxis – everything is a potential source of irritation. When we’re in the confines of a vehicle the person we perceive as causing these problems can appear less human and the ensuring outburst more acceptable. But would you behave that way if the person was right next to you? Just something to think about the next time you get the urge…
