Phosphorus Tones
Missed Connections from Asheville
He is phosphorus tones
Vibrating unceasingly
Like music from ancient times
Tuned by fire’s heat
Awakening the blackest night
He’s painting God’s breath
Heard only by those who listen
In the deepest of quiets
He will sing
His untainted truth
A lion’s heart
Captive, yet free
The desert tundra always present
In his mind’s eye
Then,
He is rolling Om
Not quite placid
Branded by a dream
Of kindness
Spontaneously
Consciously
Unfettered
He laughs
With You.
Her Two Cents
TED Talks are in seeming overabundance and I’m never sure if I’m going to get one that is truly worth 15 minutes. However, I do like Tracy Chevalier’s books so when this Talk appeared on Facebook I decided to press play. Tracy doesn’t say anything particularly innovative but she does touch upon a topic I find interesting: What is the story behind the painting? (or in my case, what is the story behind the message?) Her lecture explores the personal reasons why she finds particular works of art unforgettable and how that magnet-like pull fuels her creative output as a writer of fiction. It takes a decided lack of laziness and mental stamina to create anything – even when provided with a prompt like a painting, a message, or a person you see as you’re walking down the street. I turn Tracy’s questions and ideas inwards and ask myself what this means for my found missed connections and lovelorn poets. In the deepest of quiets I will listen for the breath, and perhaps I will also hear laughter.
