Just A Man
Missed Connections in Brooklyn
It was palm sunday and Jesus walked among the holy people
and I walked for miles set on automatic, like a washing
machine set on cleanse
Then we both met up at a McDonalds and got a
McDouble which happened to be on
the dollar menu
I watched him chew through the two patties
with pickles and cheese and knew it
didn’t satisfy his craving for a
real burger
But this was 2013 on a Sunday in
New York City
And everything was a rip off
even if it only cost a
dollar
Her Two Cents
This simple tale of sharing an over-priced and under-nourished meal with Jesus fits so well with an untrained eye’s street scene. Whether you’re wandering the L with the lost boys or riding the B and Q with the stroller set, there’s so much more to see when you’re looking through shades of gray. It might almost make you believe that Paul Westerberg was right when he wrote the lines, “Jesus rides beside me. He never buys any smokes.”
