Dear Mr. Espresso: A Poem
Missed Connections in Nashville
Dear Mr. Espresso,
You’re conversational intermezzo
Hangs so delightfully upon my ears,
Sometimes you ring in pesto,
And your coffee is the besto
Yes, OH
Yes, OH!
Your delightful beard and glasses,
Teases all the masses,
As each 30 minutes passes,
I dream of your romances.
Dear Mr. Espresso,
Will you let me be your next-oh!
A tattoo unlike the rest!
Please let me be the best
OHHH
So let me bring this to a close,
i really like your nose,
And therefore i suppose,
That perhaps the love that arose
Might come across to you,
Before your love doors close

Missed connections in coffee shops litter the internet like those little wooden stirrers used to blend your beverage. However, finding an actual poem that isn’t an overly caffeinated haiku is pretty rare – and in this case, our Nashville poet’s offering reminds me of song lyrics. In fact, the second half of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody comes to mind when reading through these verses…”Your delightful beard and glasses, Teases all the masses, Scaramouch, scaramouch will you do the fandango?”
