Missed Connections in Brooklyn
Nature
every year, the old man grew older
and sometimes it was
hard to breathe
his nasal passages stuffed
with the memories
of those, fresh air
days
like old photographs collected
then placed in
a box
made of cardboard and
packed in a closet
waiting to dissolve
and fall apart
because of the
elements
of nature

Most of us are guilty of living life through a camera – after all, what is an event, experience, or thought if we don’t capture it for immediate publication on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or any of the myriad other social network sites? Whether it’s because we need immediate communion with others or a never-ending attempt to preserve the present, our bits and bytes are no more permanent than cardboard boxes – maybe even less so.
