Missed Connections in Toronto
A Caper Story
my only warning was the clamour and cackle echoing in empty streets
smashed and looted in acts of hooliganism
burgled of gifts given to me in trust
left to sweep shards of glass and restock empty shelves
quivering in abject fear,
I find security in the sound of a silent street
Her Two Cents
This photo from Dave Jones chronicles an unfortunate event that occurred on a Toronto street back in 2010: an American Apparel store had its windows smashed and provocative display dismantled. The liberated manikins were then used to inflect further damage on the storefront of a nearby Pizza Pizza. While there’s no shortage of indignation, and indigestion, in this world, let’s not forget those charged with trying to reassemble the smashed remains of righteous fury (as our Toronto poet so clearly articulates…).
