I escape the cold
and protect myself from wind
with two thick blankets.
I managed to stay “under covers” today whenever I
had the chance. I moved carefully from room to room,
and avoided the windows. The dreary sky, and slow
drone of bad news on the radio were enough to steal
my desire to go outside.
Any momentum I had collected last
week has drained out of
me on to the floor
to the street
and down
the
block.
I re-gather my courage
together in a new container,
and try to scoop up some fresh hope
to tide me over into the next week.
We have no choice but to persevere,
it won’t help me, or anyone else
to abandon the current course
of looking up
and searching for
that hidden place.
I’ll know it when I see it.
Missed Connections are filled with good, bad and taking-cover-haiku. Did you write one? Did you find one? Before you dive under those blankets, send the link to Lovelorn Poets! We’ll preserve those courage-seeking-syllables for all eternity.
