Summertime weather
invites you to skip sweaters
and welcome the sun.
Not cowering under umbrellas and hoodies also gives us a chance to say, “Hi”
to each other, and get our smiling muscles back in shape.
I try to start the smile as soon as we make eye contact so my friendly “hello” doesn’t
just come out of no where.
Of course, some folks aren’t used to a smiling (unknown) guy looking straight at them
so I try to keep my path straight too, and pass with enough room between us.
Even if you don’t meet any new friends, it feels good just to create a friendly mood,
and brighten some one else’s day.
And hopefully smiling can become contagious. Soon we will all be doing it.
Missed Connections are filled with good, bad and hopefully-happy-haiku. Did you write one? Did you find one? Share that friendly mood and email the link to Lovelorn Poets! We’ll preserve those summer-sunny-syllables for all eternity.
