One step, two step
Like a country song dance
Three step, four step
It’s a song about no chance
Feeling the tempo
I steal a glance
Hold on tightly
To my valence
Twist, turns, and death defying dips
I have to trust he won’t let me slip
Hold on tighter, now let me go
Spinning my self around
Here comes the crescendo
One step, two step
We’re off beat
Three step, four step
My stumbling feet
How’d I miss the hand connection
I was only seeing my own reflection
Stand up, apologize
Begin again, recognize
One step, two step
Move my feet
Three step, four step
Trust yourself, You found the beat.
Before all of the changes at Craigslist, the Seattle Missed Connections was a very popular place. On any given day, there would be upwards of 100+ messages, so it was challenging to find creative writing that wasn’t “Haiku for Hopefuls / Haiku for Hearts” (which always had “haiku” in the subject line, so they stood out!) However, there were a few poems that I found now and then and this is one of them.
