I pity those this post is for
Whose hearts and souls
Hurt most by accidents
Of time and place
That say loving must be practical.
Although I can fix most any heart
I’ve given up.
There’s not time
To wait
Heal my own
Feed my soul
Be practical.
There will be complaints about
Heartfelt poetry on Craigslist Missed
About who tells the world
This is “you and me”
Trying love and a shoe that’s home,
On for size most tenderly
In the looking glass of dreams.
Complaints about who can’t say
These words aren’t beyond
What’s written here
Or avoiding the hurt of love
Not practical
By not knowing you
Not knowing me
As we do and will.
I never found found very much creative writing on the Hudson Valley Missed Connections, despite the fact that it’s on the train line to NYC. But this piece grabbed my attention because it referenced how, on some forums, posting poetry or anything that wasn’t “standard” could launch a series of complaints, often publicly posted. This used to happen quite a bit to the haiku writer in Seattle, WA as well as a number of other locations. I wonder how those vocal opponents feel now. Not only has all the poetry disappeared from most locations but lots of the “standard” posts get flagged and removed as well.
