Near and far the workers seek sustenance
Returning to the swarm
To share their busy dance
Adorned in pollen and spitting only honey
In a world that needs no money
The enemy seeks an ancient candy
Said to be the perfect remedy
For pain and death and melancholy
The men are all kings in this colony
Evolved to move past anachronistic cruelty
Every bee has a role
Every critter large and small
Gathers to lift the greater good
Toward a brighter future
With kosher honey
And clean food
There were a series of poems posted to the Pittsburgh Missed Connections last year. Many of them were flagged and removed before I could save them, but this was one I was able to save. Its message of gathering food and preparing for the months ahead is perfect as winter is right around the corner.
