Morning commuters
seem puzzled by my big smile.
It’s not a secret.
It starts as soon as I wake up, and gets wider
all day each time I remember you.
The knowledge that you are you, and a part of my life
does give me a ‘secret’ reserve of energy, patience
and strength that I can draw upon at will.
My life’s regular troubles and challenges don’t seem
insurmountable any more. They shrunk down from boulders
to brick that I can manage, or keep moving along.
I’m still surprised when I see people noticing my grin
like it’s out of place.
Maybe I should wear a sticker that says,
“Do not attempt to adjust my expression.
‘I love someone.’ “.
With all the negativity and high-emotions happening in the world, we all need a little more “haiku for hearts” and love in our hearts.
