Ahhh….Ahhh….
Off in the distance
I’m not in my shadow anymore
I’m not going to fall in
I missed betting on the carousel
The odds stacked
Breeders cup weekend
She sent me a text message
I got goose bumps instantly
I had a surrender to death smile.
Ahhh. I need me a glass of cognac
Ahhh. With the two sleeping pills
I took in the beginning of the last quarter of the cowboys and seahawks
Ahhh. I’m upset. I’m not going to cry
Ahhh. The black ink ran dry
Ahhh. Bloody red words spill
A destination of choice
Her choice
Is evidently in the words she chose
I delved deeper than I should have
Consumed by forthright thought
Consumed conflict and dreary vision
I’m sleepy
I’m about to exit upon the blank image
The reflection on the mirror
Hanging over my dreams
Empty emotional withdrawals
Ahhh. If this is how I feel from a text message
How would I feel from a kiss
How would I feel from a slapped face
Ahhh. How much pain is she worth
A country song girl
Where everyone knows the words….
I’m still searching for a heartache
Worth crying for…………………….
A November kind of Love

The Parkdale poet haunted the Toronto Missed Connections for a spell of time many years ago. The pieces generally included the articulated “Ahhh.” which always piqued my curiosity. There are many ways a person can verbalize this expression – and the tone and emotion of it can change how the rest of the poem is interpreted. These are just November musings on my part. 🙂
