mindgallery occasionally used a different section of this image; an underwater capture of a hippopotamus’s face, in his posts to the Brooklyn Missed Connections. However, this piece, from several years back, is the only poem I saved that uses an image of the hind quarters. There’s something so graceful and free (and slightly mysterious) about their suspension in the murky water. Not unlike our popular imagery of a rotund St. Nick and his reindeer flying through the skies.
