finally the place
however briefly a time-slice or few
where all distinctions
are value neutral
stops and false-starts
requiring a push and a clutch-popping
fuses fizzle or go kaboom
it adds up to a life
like any other
replete with un-fulfillments
let downs misapprehensions
no mortal can hurt so much
as an impersonal capricious
pantheon of deities
delivering much needed
raps on the knuckles
with a wooden ruler
let it go the gods do tell me
needn’t beg what can’t be given
presume no dragon wills to part with
the smallest jewel
no matter how hearts ache
to love them
