Here’s another in our ever growing list of Supermarket Stories!  We follow yesterday’s bird-girl with a little fish-girl (not planned, just kind of happened… that’s the beauty of Creative Commons, you never know what you’re going to find from one day to the next). I love the features in this creature by Theo Junior – beautiful and scary and dark but sensual all at the same time.

Gentle Readers: Perhaps it all depends on where you live, but I have to admit that I’ve never come across ANYONE in my local grocery store – worker, shopper, bottle-deposit returner, or otherwise – who caught my eye for any reason. What about you? What’s your local grocery store like? Is it full of beautiful, happy people inspecting the fresh produce and one another – or is it something a little less sexy?

Yesterday evening at the E&O, you strolled in with a friend and a flock of birds on your shoulder.
I asked if they were flying towards us or away, and you left it up to me.
Soon enough, you were lost in conversation w/your associate, and I was lost in the thick book I brought.
Too bad.
You were like some classical aquiline goddess carved out of marble or alabaster, and I wasn’t feeling too social, numbed from reading about child soldiers in Colombia.

I was late for a lunch date in Davis Square last week when I saw you sitting at Taipei Tokyo. You had on a yellow and gray patterned dress, a silver starfish necklace, some interesting tattoos, and — best of all — a peacock feather in your short, curly hair. In all the hustle and bustle I almost missed the guide dog sitting under your chair. I guess that explains why you never responded to those sly, flirty looks I kept throwing you all through lunch. I’m just hoping you have some snazzy assistive technology screen reader like JAWS that reads the Craigslist Missed Connections aloud to you and that you catch this ad. I was the big blur with red hair. Maybe you’d like to chat and introduce me to your guide dog?

I’ve read and scanned through zillions of missed connections since last fall (following 52 feeds from sea to shining sea) and this message is the first I discovered that was directed to someone with visual impairment. I love the part where the “big blur with red hair” discovers the reason why their “sly, flirty looks” aren’t getting a reaction. This message certainly has some short-film potential… 🙂

Gentle Readers: It took quite some time to locate the right image for this message but the colors in Leap of Faith by t. abroudj really caught my attention. For me, it’s the red-orange balloon that makes this image so strong and special. What about you? Is there an element in it that attracts your eye?

Here is another post from the Oracle of Cape Cod. I love discovering these messages – it’s a very unique use of the MC space that I haven’t seen elsewhere. Finding just the right image to accompany these special posts is something I look forward to every other week. While I’ve typically matched nature photography with these messages, this image of a heart surgery scar shows both pain and healing (and the corresponding story of the photograph on Adam Freeman’s Flickr page verified that I had the perfect match for this particular message).

This gig is crap. Oh sure, the job description was positive enough:

* Rescue princesses from peril
* Break spells with just a kiss
* Act as PR spokesman for male gender
* Full benefits (medical, dental, vision) after 90 days
* Successful candidates will be proficient swordsmen, kissers, and equestrians

But when you get right down to it, what do I really do all day? Bluster and bluff my way through already-awkward social situations. Argue on behalf of the downtrodden — who turn out to be ungrateful bastards in the first place which is probably why they’ve got the lot they do. Lay my cloak in the mud for prissy, center-of-the-universe girls whose egos are surpassed only by their implants. Sure, once in a while I get to deliver a magic kiss to a genuinely sweet girl who just got caught up in a bad situation. But you know how often that really happens? And seriously, every time, every single time, she turns out to be underage, or already engaged prior to the spell being cast, or otherwise totally off-limits.

This job is crap and I’m leaving. Taking my faithful steed (the only GOOD part of the job, if you ask me — he never complains, and we have a simple oats-based relationship) and my sword and my armor, and going the hell home.

Her Two Cents on Prince Charming Has Left the Kingdom

It appears our lovelorn Ann Arbor poet has been injured in the battle of romance one too many times and is taking refuge with his reliable stead.  While I’d be the first to say that not all princesses are high maintenance Barbie dolls, I’d also recommend that if all you’re turning up in the dating-mating pool are evil step-sisters, then taking a break could be for the best. Perhaps riding out into the sunset with the horse and a frosty beverage (as illustrated so perfectly by r8r) is the cure for clarity.

Gentle Readers: What do you think about the saying, “sometimes you gotta kiss a lot of toads in order to find your prince”? Do you think our prince has had a string of bad luck with toady-girls or might there be another reason why he’s not meeting his princess?
