I have traveled down this one way street trying to catch up to you hoping we would find each other.

Little did I now you were on your own one way street trying to catch up to someone else not even looking for me.

I am lost confused not wanting to find an exit but may have to.

Please tell me if I need to get off this street and find another.

I realize now I can never catch up to you as long as you’re on the wrong road.

How Do I Cross A Street? by Thomas R. Stegelmann

You were crossing the street
and I was in my car.
I noticed as you crossed the street
you had a ukulele sticking out of your bag,
I asked you if it was a ukulele
(since it was half out/in your backpack)
and you said yes.
Sadly the light turned green
and I just said “Awesome”
and kept going.
You were totally cute
and I like ukuleles.
I have a baritone ukulele,
yours had to be a soprano if it fit in that tiny backpack.
If I was a pedestrian at that moment,
I would have chatted for a bit but I don’t want to be the guy holding up traffic.

Her Two Cents on Ukukele Girl

This individual is quite the conscientious motor vehicle operator! Not wanting to hold up traffic in order to speak to a fellow ukulele enthusiast? Impressive.  Rather unlike the Jersey Shore driver who was featured a few weeks back… While the DMV may approve, our traffic abiding citizen missed that window of opportunity to get a bit more information.   Let’s hope these two reunite at the next meet-up of the Providence Ukulele Club (not sure if such a group exists but knowing Providence, it seems likely).

Gentle Readers: Our Providence poet opted to obey traffic laws rather than chat with the person who caught their attention. What would you have done in this situation? Would you have driven on? Mercilessly held up traffic? Maybe thrown the hazards on and hope for the best?

Her Two Cents on 6.6.06 Hallelujah

I love this kooky little list poem about an old radio. All the bits and pieces remind me of a jigsaw puzzle and I want to know how to put them all together.  The ending line, “have you any dreams you’d like to sell?” seems to fit well with the somewhat eerie photograph by John Pastorello.  It’s not quite the San Francisco Sister of Chucky but this is Brooklyn, and the universe operates under different parameters there.

Gentle Readers: Many people are under the impression that poetry has to be constructed in a particular way, using certain rules and styles. This messages shows that even a simple list, if well-constructed, can be intriguing. Are there any brave readers out there who will dare to try something similar?

Obvious allusions to Jim Morrison aside, there is something clearly compelling and beautiful about lizards. This old photograph (rescued/”stolen” by too tiki) presents a gentle, almost magical interaction between human and reptile.

I occasionally see you on the bus when I go to work,
and tonight I even saw you on my way back…
which was odd because I was at work super super late!
You’re very cute and remind of someone else who is awesome,
so you’re already way ahead in my book.
I’m pretty damned shy,
but I’d like to just be like “Hey!” and introduce myself…
but I also don’t want to come across as some crazy creeper either.
I’m just pretty much exhausted
whenever I’m on the bus,
so I probably don’t come off as very cool or neat.
Either I’ve not gotten enough sleep, or I’ve been at work for too long…
If you think this might be for you,
and you think you might know who I am,
then tell me something about me,
something about you,
and the bus line we ride.

Her Two Cents on Busses Are Funny

It’s pretty clear our lovelorn Austin poet is self-conscious about approaching this person simply because they are “a little bleary, worse for wear and tear” after a long day. My advice? Throw on a clean shirt, splash some water on your face, and check the hair before leaving work. If you feel a bit better about your appearance you won’t be so nervous about saying “hey” when your eyes meet (and saying hello isn’t considered creepy it’s friendly!).

Gentle Readers: Some people place great importance on physical appearance and style of dress while others barely even notice it. How do you feel about this? Would you initially give a stranger a benefit of the doubt simply because you liked the clothes they were wearing?
