I was wandering around downtown with my camera and you pulled up to the stop light as I was nearing the crosswalk. Your dog totally caught my attention out the driver side back window… he gave me the goofiest, happy grin. In the introspective mood I was in, that goofy dog grin made me break out in one myself.

You, arm out the driver’s window turned and smiled and asked how I was doing (I was staring, I suppose, at your furry passenger). I lifted my sunglasses to see you better and called back. You said something else, and I was sort of lost in thought as I yelled back that I love your dog. You hollered back something along the lines of “Yeah, he’s the grinning type!” The light was green and as you pulled away I found myself wishing a good day towards your tail pipe.

The thing is… I was lost in thought because I thought I vaguely recognized you.. the little bit I could see through your driver’s window for a few seconds with tired contacts in. Do you work at one of the local bars downtown, perhaps?

I’m sure you won’t read this, and I’m sure it doesn’t matter anyways. It’s just that diminishing itch when you can’t quite place someone you thought you might know… you know? 🙂

Either way, here’s to your dog… his unexpected grin made my day. (Your smile was a close second!)

It’s been some time since we’ve had a message from the Asheville MC and this one does not disappoint. How can you not love a happy, grinning dog? They’re just 100% pure joy and enthusiasm – guaranteed to make your day a little brighter.  Let’s hope our slightly foggy lovelorn poet crosses paths with dog and owner again!

Gentle Readers: While selecting this photo by Rennett Stowe on Creative Commons, I read that this dog was adopted by him just days before euthanization was to take place. No wonder the furry guy is smiling! He knows how lucky he is to have a home!  If you have a pet, did they come from an animal shelter or rescue site? I was late for a lunch date in Davis Square last week when I saw you sitting at Taipei Tokyo. You had on a yellow and gray patterned dress, a silver starfish necklace, some interesting tattoos, and — best of all — a peacock feather in your short, curly hair. In all the hustle and bustle I almost missed the guide dog sitting under your chair. I guess that explains why you never responded to those sly, flirty looks I kept throwing you all through lunch. I’m just hoping you have some snazzy assistive technology screen reader like JAWS that reads the Craigslist Missed Connections aloud to you and that you catch this ad. I was the big blur with red hair. Maybe you’d like to chat and introduce me to your guide dog?

Her Two Cents on Your Guide Dog Was So Well Accessorized

I’ve read and scanned through zillions of missed connections since last fall (following 52 feeds from sea to shining sea) and this message is the first I discovered that was directed to someone with visual impairment. I love the part where the “big blur with red hair” discovers the reason why their “sly, flirty looks” aren’t getting a reaction. This message certainly has some short-film potential… 🙂

Gentle Readers: It took quite some time to locate the right image for this message but the colors in Leap of Faith by t. abroudj really caught my attention. For me, it’s the red-orange balloon that makes this image so strong and special. What about you? Is there an element in it that attracts your eye?

It was today, around 5 or 5:30pm.
You were at the park exercising, wearing black and had a black hat on.
I was relaxing on a blanket in the shade.
Our dogs ran over to meet each other and we both watched as my dog nearly peed on yours!
We laughed it off and exchanged a few words.
You stopped to talk to me for a minute as you were leaving.
I said our dogs were fast friends and we talked about how they were getting older.
As you walked away I was wishing that we had talked for longer.
Reply if you see this and maybe we can get our dogs together sometime…

Note from the Missed Connections Chief Bottle Finder: Can I tell you just how perfect I think this photo is? The colors and textures are so lifelike – almost as if I could feel the dog’s fur in my hands or the woman’s knit cap on my head. I can only hope that our lovelorn Austin poet has this vibrant of an experience at the dog-park.

Stop being so handsome.
Fine.  Keep doing it.  But be my boyfriend while doing so.
I have a dog too. We could take them on walks together, while holding hands.
You have salt’n’pepper hair and are probably approaching 40.
I like that.
You look like you probably wear cologne, but only a tiny spritz,
every now and then.
You probably wear nice v-neck sweaters in the fall—I can tell—but today you were wearing a plain white t-shirt.
Good job.
You could totally get hired as one of those charming guys with fake accents, trying to sell fingernail buffers at the mall, but that would be a joke, cuz you’re over-qualified.

Her Two Cents on Handsome Man Walking His Scrappy Dog

I’ve found so many missed connections involving dogs that I’ve decided I need to set up a separate category on this site. That way all of our dog-loving readers can get their fill of their favorite four-legged furry friends and their comely/sexy/intriguing/hunky owners.  I profess to be a cat person at heart, but if walking a dog on a regular basis would but me into contact with George Clooney (or the poor man’s George Clooney) I think I might be convinced to add another species to my life.

Gentle Readers: OK, dog owners, now is the time to speak up! Regardless of your current relationship status, have you ever had any flirtatious encounters (or hopes for flirtatious encounters) when out exercising your pet? What happened?
