The absolute
Sensational devotion
Shrouded in mysticism
I engulfed my toasted western
With cheese on white.
Parkdale Pete’s does it up but good.
The cloudy romance
Is darkened by the spilled
Essential soul music
Ahhh Janice Joplin you are my darling
I needed that smile and wink
A travesty of the sublime
A picturesque voyage beyond
This catastrophic bewitchment
The demons within
Flushed down
Through the ceramic tunnels
I the visionary wood chopper
Written the sequence on the single ply
Wipe the masterpiece with a smile
And play Amazing Grace
For time has evaded
By bowels from disenchanted euphoria
It’s English breakfast tea to the rescue
Calming the nervous system down
Ahhh forsaken drivel
Upon these shithouse walls.
Amen.
The Parkdale poet of the Toronto Missed Connections wasn’t always the most eloquent but they certainly had a great deal of enthusiasm for writing their thoughts and sharing them with other readers (and ignoring the vitriolic attacks from those who were looking for a more “meat and potatoes” missed connections experience. 🙂 ). Now that we’re months into our COVID-19 social distancing, I think one of the things I miss the most is the ability to go to a cafe, enjoy a buzzy-inducing cuppa, and bask in the collective energy. The simple pleasures we took for granted are the ones we desire most now that they’re out of reach…
