There’s a letter on the desktop that I dug out of a drawer
The last truce we ever came to
In our adolescent war
And I start to feel the fever
From the warm air through the screen
You come regular like seasons
Shadowing my dreams
From Anchorage to Zebulon: In Search of Missed Connections
which exists between us
allows an agony in me
I could have never imagined.
The grammar of my being
has been essentially changed.
Words written here
grant me little comfort.
One remains, hard as sapphire.
Blue as the sea.
Love.
Principessa was a Mexican telenova, or soap opera, that aired in the early 1980s. I’ll admit to not fully understanding this poem from New Haven, or the reference to the television show, but there are two lines I find myself drawn back to over and over “the poetry of silence which exists between us” and “the grammar of my being has been essentially changed.” Even without a literal translation, the combinations create a story I want to follow.
This weekend will mark two years since you have been gone.
There are days when it seems so long ago, other days it feels like yesterday.
Still there are days when I just shake my head and can’t believe it happened.
I was making peach ice cream the day you died,
this weekend I may have a scoop in your honor.
If you were here, we would be celebrating the grade I received on my most recent professional exam.
Always my advocate.
I miss you and you are not forgotten.

So I guess this is really the end of “us.”
We created a path full of bumps and bruises only to be left with a huge wall in front of us that can not be knocked down.
The road stopped so quickly without any warning and my heart has not felt the same since.
I am too bitter and stubborn to admit this to your face,
but I truly love and care about you more than any words can say.
You own a place in my heart that will never be replaced no matter who may come along in my life.
Best wishes to you as you depart from this road onto another.

You were the bookish red head being chastised by the comic shop owner for bending the books forward.
I was the loutish meter maid ranting about Alex Jones, David Icke, and the reptilian secret empire controlling the world.
I mentioned being drunk the night before and downloading Beautiful Katamari on xbox;
you told me I’d made a good decision.
Was it me, or did we have a moment?
Life is too short for single player, and I’ve got two controllers.
I’m waiting for you to join my party if you want to play.
