Missed Connections in Raleigh / Durham / CH

I am the someone,
Who needs somewhere,
To long for.

So many bridges,
Have turned,
To infernos.

Bright and blazing,
The landmarks,
Of my selfishness.

My heart,
Careening precariously,
On the well beaten path.

For the moment,
I listen,
And hear the music.

Getting lost,
Remixing it,
To make it what my moment,
Needs.

I’m always the needed one.
My pillars of strength,
Are cracked and in disrepair.

For the moment,
I just need to need.
And hopefully,
Someone else,
Needs to be needed.

What I found interesting about this poem was the difference between the the words above and below the dotted line. The first part sets the tone for a person “Careening precariously, On the well beaten path.” perhaps living only for their own interests. The second part conveys a different person – one who perhaps lives too much for others. Different facets of the same person perhaps? The true self and the shadow self?

Missed Connections in Raleigh-Durham, NC

Her dark brown flowing fresh smelling hair
Her dark brown radiant penetrating eyes and face
As I lay upon the bed without a single care
I stare into the emptiness in a state of grace

She once answered the door in that little white blouse
And to my delight on the left side just covering her tender heart
As I stood humbly in the doorway of the big white house
Was the most wonderful little chocolate stain…Like a fine art

She has a smile and a voice that could in a single glance
Crumble the mountains and drain the oceans
Leaving a man helpless and forever in her trance
For she has worked all this magic using those many different lotions

Each night I close my eyes and lay upon my bed so warm
She’s there in the distant darkness, silence and dreamlands
I can’t talk to her, I can’t touch her but a vision has taken form
Next to my oceans her name is forever written in the sands

What starts out as an ode to a dark-haired beauty ends on a very strange note – and I wonder if it was intentional or not. A name written in the ocean sand is a fleeting thing – no permanence there at all. Is the subject of Carolina Sweets nothing more than a quickly passing confection?
